WOUNDS – DIE YOUNG 4/5

Dublin Punk Emperors Wounds drop their debut ten track album Die Young. Exposing dynamic hardcore punk tension only expected from the likes of Black Flag and The Bronx, poise found when Gallows enter a room and the bloodthirsty quench anyone gets from listening to Cancer Bats. Wounds take these influences and the boisterous ‘Killing Spree’ is born.

‘Desperate Times’ shines light on the blow from their whirlwind adventure the four inevitably and greatly talented guys saw and fought through towards the start of their establishment.

It’s that fight in them that really puts Die Young into action. The signature vocals that come from Aidan Coogan boast endurance and force in the impressive ‘The Pile’ with lyrics ‘we don’t need your fucking approval/we do this for ourselves/after all that is said after all that is done/we wouldn’t want to be anyone else’.

To sign off the album as a bloody damn good one, ‘Dead Road’ clamber a grungy bass line intro with caliginous vocals, beats that pulse with despair and sorrow before the chorus hits with feverish screams. Closing repeating lyrics ‘never said goodbye, should have said goodbye’ throw a sense of authentic woe into the mix.
